Let the adventure begin!
We have a full day of activities planned for our excursion day, three of which require tickets. Before you commit, here’s a breakdown of our main attractions:
1. Cliffs of Moher
Besides the wedding (of course), this is why we’re here. Our pods are situated right by the Cliffs—just 15 minutes away! As one of Ireland’s most iconic sites, soaring 702-feet above the waves, the Cliffs are a must-see experience.
Fun Facts About the Cliffs:
The rocks formed over 320 million years ago during the Carboniferous period.
The Cliff’s IMDB page would tell you they made their film debut in the 1987 fantasy film The Princess Bride as the dramatic “Cliffs of Insanity.” They later landed a role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince as the cave containing the Horcrux locket. Try not to get too starstruck.
It’s where Monique proposed to Steph. But… we can’t venture to that exact spot as the couple technically trespassed on private properties to get there for free.
3. Caherconnell Sheepdog Demonstration
Consistently, this is the one activity every local has urged us to do. Hosted by the Davoren family, who’ve farmed the land for generations against the rocky landscape of the Burren, we’ll witness a relationship with “man’s best friend” unlike any other.
Fun Facts About the Sheepdog Demonstration:
During excavations of the 1,000-year-old ring fort, archaeologists discovered ancient dog and sheep bones. Sheepdog handlers still work the exact same land today.
The sheepdogs are trained for up to two years to master a complex system of unique whistle tones and voice commands. Our dogs told us that’s AI.
We’ll get the chance to meet the dogs up close for cuddles, photos, and autographs.
2. Doolin Cave
We’re taking you to a cliffside. Why not venture into the depths of a cave system next?
Fun Facts About the Cave:
The cave houses the Great Stalactite, the longest free-hanging stalactite in the Northern Hemisphere.
The tour will take us about 200-feet underground through a series of passages and chambers.
Two university students discovered the cave in 1952 when they followed a small stream that vanished beneath a limestone cliff and crawled through a narrow passage. Fret not—there will be no crawling on this tour.
